Ready for Taste of Madison?
Every Labor Day weekend, and estimated 250,000 people flock to Capitol Square to participate in the Taste of Madison. Why wouldn’t you? It’s free, the food is great and reasonably priced, the beverage stands are plenty and the entertainment completes the package. Come up from Chicago, only 122 miles away, stay for the weekend in a hotel in Madison, Wisconsin, take in the festival on Saturday and Sunday and head to the beach on Monday at one of the 4 lakes that surround Madison. Doesn’t that sound like a fantastic way to get out of the city?
Nearly 80 local restaurants participate in the event each year. There is absolutely something for everyone. That doesn’t mean “Oh you’ll find something you’ll like” it means, in the truest sense of the words, there is something for everyone; allergy-friendly fare, vegetarian, Asian, health conscious, European, there is even kid-pleasing food. Literally hundreds of food choices from local restaurants are available at really reasonable prices.
To go with your food there are over 20 beverage booths serving a variety of wine, Bud products and Pepsi products. All of the tips that are collected at these tents go directly to the United Cerebral Palsy of Dane County. So when someone serves you with a smile, throw a buck in the bucket for a good cause.
Aside from the fact you couldn’t possibly prepare anything as good as what’s being offered here, please remember, no carry ins are permitted, it’s a benefit for UCP.
There are 3 entertainment stages. How clever is that? If you don’t care for country music, swagger on over to the rock stage or the R&B/Variety stage for a little Sophie B. Hawkins. Wherever you go on the square you’ll be entertained while you eat. Please remember that while lawn chairs are permitted on Capitol property only, they are not permitted on the streets, sidewalks or in front of the stages.
While we’re sure your pets are wonderful critters, they are not permitted to accompany you to Taste of Madison. Take them for a ride in scenic Dane County on Labor Day and picnic with them on the beach at Lake Mendota. They’ll forgive you for leaving them in some hotel in Madison, Wisconsin for a few hours. If they somehow sneak out with you and they get caught, it’ll cost you a $100 fine for their indiscretions.
You will have a wonderful time at the Taste of Madison. You’ll be glad you came.
